Registering your program



To register and upgrade your software, you will need to obtain registration details. To purchase a registration key from the Trellian web site, Select Register from the Help menu of Button Factory, and click the Order button. Alternatively you may purchase the software from an authorized Trellian software reseller.

Once you have all of your details ready, follow these steps to register Button Factory.

Step 1. - Select Register from the Help menu.

Step 2. - Enter your registration details. Registration details are case sensitive. Your username will be the email address you registered with. If you have lost your registration details, click the relevant link on the registration window, and follow the instructions. Click the Next button to continue. If your registration details are accepted, a thank you message is displayed



Step 3. - Button Factory will then begin searching for any missing components that you may be entitled to download. It will then to ask you whether you would like to download these components. Click Yes to upgrade now, or you can upgrade the components at a later date. If you do not upgrade, the full program features may not be available

Upgrading



To keep Button Factory current, upgrades should be installed from time to time. These upgrades are free to all registered users.

To download the latest upgrade, select the Upgrade option from the File menu. LiveUpgrade will contact the upgrade server to check if there are any upgrades available.



All available components will be displayed in the selection list. All items that can be upgraded will be marked with a red clock icon. To upgrade these items, tick the checkbox next to the program and/or component name and click the Upgrade button.

Items marked by a grey dot have not been installed.

Items marked with a green tick are current and no update is required.

Starting a new project



Button Factory automatically opens the last project saved, except when run for the first time.

To create a new project, select New Project from the File menu, or you can click the Start a New Document button on the toolbar.

Opening an existing project



To open an existing project, select Open Project from the File menu and locate your project.

You can also click the Open New Project button on the toolbar.

Setting the Background Color



To set the background colour, select Set Background Color from the Options menu.

Select a color from the palatte and click the OK button.

Creating Buttons



Adding a new button

To create a new button select the button style from the button library and drag the button to the position on the project where the button should appear.

You can also insert a new button by selecting the button style button from the button library and selecting New Button from the Insert menu.



If the button needs to be resized, click on the squares at the corners of the button and drag the button to the right size.



To move the button, click on the button and drag the button to the desired location.


Editing button text

To add or edit the button text, double click on the button and enter the required text. Click outside the button when finished.


Changing font properties

Select the button to change by clicking on it, or holding down the control button and selecting multiple buttons. The font properties can be changed by selecting the font options from the toolbar.



To change the font colour, click the Change Font button.For more information about the buttons, see the Interface section of the manual.


Changing Button Properties

To change the button properties, right click the button and select Properties or select Show Properties from the Window menu to permanantly display the button properties window.



Button Shape: To change the button shape, select the button(s) you wish to change, and select a shape from the first drop down menu.



Border Style colours: Shows the colours of the border. These colours can be changed by double clicking the colour and selecting a new colour from the palatte. Reverse colour scheme:Reverses the colour scheme of the border. Not all button shapes can be changed

Button Border: To change the border width, select an option from the Border width drop down menu. To remove the border from the image, set the border width to 0. To set the border colour, double click the Border Colour and select a new colour from the colour palatte.

Antialias: Smoothes the stair-step lines and curves on the buttons

Transparent : Makes the button transparent, only displaying text

Background Colour: Gives the button a solid background colour instead of the button image.

Texture Settings: Changes the way the image is displayed on the button.

Load Image: Allows you to load an texture for the button to use

Creating an Image Map



An image map is an image that directs web browsers to different web pages depending on which part of the image was clicked.

To create an image map, follow the steps to create a button.

Enter the URL (including http://) for the button in the Link Address field on the toolbar.


Repeat these steps to create more image maps or create several buttons and place them next to each other to create image map regions.

Inserting text and HTML items



To insert text on to a button or into the webpage, select Insert Text from the Insert menu. Double click the text area to insert text. The text area can be moved and resized in the same manner as buttons.



To insert HTML code, select Insert HTML Snippet from the Insert menu. Enter the HTML code between the <p> and </p> tags. To preview the code, select the project items and select HTML Page Builder from the File menu.

Inserting External HTML and Image files



To insert an external image, select Insert External Image from the Insert menu. Specify the file to insert and click OK

To add an external HTML page, select Insert External HTML from the Insert menu. Specify the HTML file to insert and click OK the HTML page will be created in an IFRAME.

To preview the webpage, select the project items and select HTML Page Builder from the File menu.

Previewing buttons



To preview a button in a browser window, select the button to preview and select Preview in browser from the File menu.



Click the Preview button to display the button in a browser window.

HTML builder



To generate a web page from the project, select all the items to include in the web page, then select HTML Page Builder from the File menu.

Enter a name for the webpage and click OK. The webpage will be displayed in a browser window, and saved in the c:\Program Files\TRELLIAN\ButtonFactory v3.0\Sites\webpage name folder (If installed to default location).

Exporting Buttons



Button Factory allows you to export buttons from the project and save them as various graphic file formats.

To save a button, select the button to export and select Export Image from the File menu. Specify the location to save the button, and enter a filename with the desired extension, eg. star.jpg

Saving a project



To save the current project select Save from the File menu.



To save the project with a different file name, select Save As from the File menu.
