Registering your program
To register and upgrade your software, you will need to obtain registration details. To purchase a registration key from the Trellian web site, Select Register Software from the Help menu of WebTidy, and click on the "Click here to visit our online website" link. Alternatively you may purchase the software from an authorized Trellian software reseller.
Once you have all of your details ready, follow these steps to register WebTidy.
Step 1. - Select Register Software from the Help menu.
Step 2. - Enter your registration details. Registration details are case sensitive. Your username will be the email address you registered with. If you have lost your registration details, click the relevant link on the registration window, and follow the instructions. Click the OK button to continue. If your registration details are accepted, a thank you message is displayed
Step 3. - WebTidy will then begin searching for any missing components that you may be entitled to download. It will then to ask you whether you would like to download these components. Click Yes to upgrade now, or you can upgrade the components at a later date. If you do not upgrade, the full program features may not be available

To keep WebTidy current, upgrades should be installed from time to time. These upgrades are free to all registered users.
To download the latest upgrade, select the Upgrade option from the File menu. LiveUpgrade will contact the upgrade server to check if there are any upgrades available.
All available components will be displayed in the selection list. All items that can be upgraded will be marked with a red clock icon. To upgrade these items, tick the checkbox next to the program and/or component name and click the Upgrade button.
Items marked by a grey dot have not been installed.
Items marked with a green tick are current and no update is required.

WebTidy has two main functions - Validate and Tidy. This chapter explains how to use the validation function.
To validate a HTML file locate the file in the file browser. Select the file so it is highlighted. WebTidy can only validate one file at a time.
Click the Validate button to start the validation process.
WebTidy will display the results of the validation in bottom pane of the window.
To edit the HTML file click the Edit button. When finished editing save the file and click Validate to recheck the code.
To view the HTML file in a web browser click the View button.

To tidy HTML code locate the file or folder in the file browser. Select the file/folder so it is highlighted. If a folder is selected, all HTML files within the folder will be tidied.
Click the Tidy button. Select the tidying options required from the tabs. For more information on the options see the Tidying Options section. To preview the tidied HTML code click the Preview button. The code can also be previewed by clicking the Before and After tabs.
To begin the tidying process click OK
If the HTML file contains invalid HTML code WebTidy will display an error message. The HTML file should be free of any code errors before running the Tidy tool.
To edit the HTML file click the Edit button
To view the HTML file in a web browser click the View button.
WebTidy creates a backup of files before tidying. Files that can be restored have a blue arrow icon next to them.
To restore a file or folder after tidying select the file/folder and click the Restore button. The following message will be displayed:
Note that any changes made after tidying will be lost. Click Yes to restore the files.
To remove the backup files that WebTidy has created, select the file that was tidied. Click the Clean button. Note: The files will not be restorable after this function is performed.

This option specifies if WebTidy will replace lower case HTML tags with upper case HTML tags
This option specifies if WebTidy will replace lower case HTML tag attributes with upper case HTML tag attributes
This option specifies if WebTidy will output a line break before <BR> tags
This option specifies if WebTidy should indent block-level tags such as TITLE, H1-H6, LI, TD or P dependeing on whether or not the content includes a block-level element. Ticking this checkbox may expose layout bugs in some web browsers.
Remove empty paragraphs
This option specifies if WebTidy should remove empty paragraph tags. If not ticked, WebTidy will replace the paragraph tags with BR tags as per HTML 4.0
Strip MS Word 2000 tags
This option specifies if WebTidy should remove surplus code inserted by Microsoft Word 2000.
Strip vendor-specific HTML
This option specifies if WebTidy should strip Microsoft specific HTML code from Microsoft Word 2000 documents and output spaces instead of non-breaking spaces.
Fix Bad Comments
This option specifies if WebTidy should replace unexpected hyphens with "=". This option is provided for Cold Fusion users as Cold Fusion uses the comment syntax <!--- --->
This option specifies if WebTidy should check the attribute values for illegal characters in URLs. If found, characters are escaped as per HTML 4.0
Replace fonts with styles
This option specifies if WebTidy should replace presentational tags and replace them with style rules where appropriate.
Enable Text Wrapping
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap generated HTML
This option specifies the number of characters per line
Wrap HTML Attributes
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap attributes for easier reading
Wrap HTML Sections
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap text contained within <![ . . . ]> section tags
Wrap ASP Scripts
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap text contained within ASP pseudo elements <% . . . %>
Wrap PHP Scripts
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap text contained within ASP pseudo elements <?php . . .?>
Wrap SCRIPT string literals
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap string literals in script attributes. Script literals are wrapped by inserting a backslash character before the line break
Wrap JSTE Scripts
This option specifies if WebTidy should wrap text contained within JSTE pseudo elements <# . . .#>
Automatically provide image ALT text
This option specifies if WebTidy should create ALT tags using the text in the text box.
This option specifies the character encoding of the input file. Select an option from the drop down menu.
This option specifies the number of characters per tab of the input file. Select an option from the drop down menu.

File Type Filter
WebTidy's file browser will only display files with the extensions listed in this field.
Ask before processing folders
When this checkbox is ticked WebTidy will display a warning when a folder is selected. To disable the warning message untick the checkbox.
Show Hidden Files and Folders
When this checkbox is ticked WebTidy will display hidden files and folders in the file browser. To hide hidden files untick the checkbox.
When this checkbox is ticked WebTidy will display captions underneath the toolbar buttons. To disable the captions untick the checkbox.
When this checkbox is ticked WebTidy will display a large version of the toolbar icons. To disable large icons untick the checkbox.
The WebTidy interface is easy to navigate and is designed to be user friendly.
