Did you know that you can create clickable regions for your HTML images?

Trellian Image Mapper is the quickest way to create image mapped images for your website.

Full support for hyperlinked rectangles, circles and even polygon regions is provided and you can import all your current image maps.

After you have created your image map, Trellian Image Mapper will generate the required HTML code ready to be pasted directly into your favorite HTML editor.
You can even use the built-in image map previewer.

Registering your program



To register and upgrade your software, you will need to obtain registration details. To purchase a registration key from the Trellian web site, Select Register Software from the Help menu of Image Mapper, and click on the "Click here to visit our online website" link. Alternatively you may purchase the software from an authorized Trellian software reseller.

Once you have all of your details ready, follow these steps to register Image Mapper.

Step 1. - Select Register Software from the Help menu.



Step 2. - Enter your registration details. Registration details are case sensitive. Your username will be the email address you registered with. If you have lost your registration details, click the relevant link on the registration window, and follow the instructions. Click the OK button to continue. If your registration details are accepted, a thank you message is displayed



Step 3. - Image Mapper will then begin searching for any missing components that you may be entitled to download. It will then to ask you whether you would like to download these components. Click Yes to upgrade now, or you can upgrade the components at a later date. If you do not upgrade, the full program features may not be available

Upgrading



To keep Image Mapper current, upgrades should be installed from time to time. These upgrades are free to all registered users.

To download the latest upgrade, select the Upgrade option from the File menu. LiveUpgrade will contact the upgrade server to check if there are any upgrades available.



All available components will be displayed in the selection list. All items that can be upgraded will be marked with a red clock icon. To upgrade these items, tick the checkbox next to the program and/or component name and click the Upgrade button.

Items marked by a grey dot have not been installed.

Items marked with a green tick are current and no update is required.

Creating an Image Map



To create an image map follow these steps:
  1. Click the File menu and select New Image Map.

  2. Locate an image to use in the file browser window and click Open. Image mapper will open the image.

  3. Select a shape of the clickable region from the toolbar. The available shapes are rectangle, circle and polygon.



  4. Click the image and drag the mouse to create a clickable region. A rectangle's bottom right corner will be at the initial click point and the circle's top left area will be at the initial click point.



    To create a polygon click on the image to create points on the image. When the final point is connected to the inital point the region is complete.





  5. To resize the region click and drag any of the green squares surrounding the region. The entire region can be moved by clicking inside the region and dragging the region to the desired location.



  6. To set the URL and ALT tags for the region right click the image and select Properties or click the Properties button on the toolbar.





    Select a target for the URL from the drop down menu.

    _blank will open the URL in a new window

    _parent will open the URL in the inner frameset of the webpage. If there is no parent frameset _parent will operate like _top

    _self will open the URL in the same window

    _top will open the URL in the topmost frame



  7. To create another clickable region simply repeat the above steps. The clickable regions can be layered using the "Send Region to Back" and "Bring Region to Front" buttons

Previewing an Image Map



To preview an image map click the Preview tab.




The image map can be clicked to ensure the URL's have been entered correctly.

Inserting an Image Map into a webpage



Click the Source Tab to display the source code of the Image Map.



Copy the code between the <!-- BEGINNING OF IMAGE MAP --> and <!-- END OF IMAGE MAP -->



Note: When creating image maps destined for the Internet the "<IMG src=".........." " (image path) should be changed to reference the image on the server not the local drives.

Importing an Image Map



To import an image map for editing click the File menu and select Import Image Map. Locate the image map in the file browser and click the Open button. Image Mapper will open the image ready for editing.
