Overview
Site Mapper is a site map creator which boasts an extremely intuitive interface. It is a great tool which can be used to obtain a good idea of exactly how large a site is by generating a perfect site map of all files used by a site.
Site Mapper will analyze the contents of a web site, and create a detailed map with an indexed listing of all resources by page and category.
It will also validate all links, so that users need never come across 'File not found' errors and broken images.
Site Mapper is a perfect tool for Webmasters, but can also be used by anyone wishing to see their favorite web site presented in a simpler form.

Registration
To register and upgrade your Software, you will first need to obtain a serial number from our web site by using the following URL in your web browser: http://www.trellian.com/order.htm. Alternatively you may purchase this information from an authorized Trellian Software reseller if this is easier for you.
Once you have all of your details ready, choose the Register Software option from the Help menu of SiteMapper.
Enter your Email address and Serial Number into the corresponding fields as shown in the example, then click the OK button. Make sure you type your registration details exactly as we supplied them to you, (this includes upper AND lower case letters).
Step 1. - Select Register Software from the Help menu.

Step 2. - Enter your registration details exactly as they were sent to you.

Step 3. - Click the Unlock Software button to register SiteMapper.

Upgrading
To keep SiteMapper current, upgrades should be installed from time to time. These upgrades are free to all registered users.
To download the latest upgrade, select the Upgrade option from the File menu. LiveUpgrade will contact the upgrade server to check if there are any upgrades available. 
All available components will be displayed in the selection list. All items that can be upgraded will be selected, and marked with a red clock icon. To upgrade these items, tick the checkbox next to the program and/or component name and click the Upgrade button.
Items marked by a grey dot have not been installed.
Items marked with a green tick are current and no update is required.

Using SiteMapper
This chapter explains how to use SiteMapper
Before Starting
If you are accessing the internet via a proxy server, first make sure that the proxy address and port settings are entered correctly in HTTP Settings. If you have a direct connection to the internet, you can leave the proxy address blank, otherwise if the correct address is not specified, SiteMapper will not be able to connect to the Internet. Your ISP will inform you whether you need to access the Internet via a proxy.
You may need to set the path to your web browser and other external programs. These settings can be changed in Setup External Tools.
Starting a new project
SiteMapper automatically opens with a blank project, ready for a URL to be entered.
To start a new project, click the New button on the toolbar, or select New Project from the File menu.
Opening an existing project
To open an existing project, select Open Project from the File menu and locate your project. You can also click the Open Project button on the toolbar.
Entering a URL or file name
Enter the URL of a website or webpage to check in the Address bar. The URL should be in the form of http://www.trellian.com. 
To spider a website from your hard drive, select Spider Local URL from the File menu. Browser for the index file and click OK. SiteMapper will then spider the URL.
To enter a file type the path of the file in the address bar eg. C:\filetocheck.htm or click the ... button at the end of the address bar to browse for a file
Mapping the URL
After entering a URL, click the Start button to begin mapping the URL/file. The Connection status window of SiteMapper is designed to provide a visual feedback of all the web sites that are being contacted and returning search results. It provides an indication as to which webpages are being queried, and of all the webpages which are pending.
To cancel the URL mapping, click the Terminate button. To pause mapping of the website click the Suspend button. To resume, click the Resume button. 
Connection status values
Resolving host name: This indicates that SiteMapper is mapping the URL name to an IP address.
Connecting: This indicates that the web site has been contacted and SiteMapper is attempting to make a connection.
Connected: This indicates that the web site has been contacted and has made a successful connection. SiteMapper will then proceed to download the necessary data from the page before analyzing it.
Pending: This indicates that the webpage is waiting to be mapped.

Active threads: The number of threads that are currently active
Total threads: The total number of threads
Previewing webpages
To preview the webpage, click on the webpage from a category list. The preview will be displayed in the preview pane at the bottom of the window. To toggle the preview pane on and off, click the Preview button from the toolbar.
Checking Spelling
To check the spelling on any HTML document, click on the HTML document and click the Spelling button. Enter the name of the file to check, or click OK to accept the file name. SiteMapper will then validate the spelling in the document.
Note: The Trellian dictionary is required for spelling checks. It can be installed via LiveUpgrade
Editing
To edit an item from the website, locate the item from the site map pane. Right click the item and select Edit from the pop up menu, or click the Edit button on the toolbar. SiteMapper will open the required program for you. 
Ensure that you have specified the external program paths before editing.

Results
When the connection status window disappears, the mapping is complete. The webpage items are broken down into categories that are displayed in the sitemap window pane. The site map is shown under the email addresses category.

| Spelling Errors | Displays all the HTML files found on the website. If spelling errors were found, red cross will be displayed next to the webpage name. If a green tick is displayed, no spelling errors were found. |

| External Links | Displays all the links found to webpages outside the website. |

Broken Links
To check if any broken links were found on the website, click the Broken Links category. The HTML webpages found containing broken links will be listed with a red cross next to them. 
To view which webpages contained the broken link, right click the webpage from the list, and select Properties from the popup menu. The webpages listed in the URL Referers box contain the reference to the broken link.
The error code of the broken link is displayed in the Code column. The table below explains the common error codes.

Redirected Links
To check if any broken links were found on the website, click the Redirected Links category. The HTML webpages found containing redirected links will be listed with a red arrow next to them. 
To view which webpages contained the redirected link, right click the webpage from the list, and select Properties from the popup menu. The webpages listed in the URL referers box contain the reference to the redirected link. 
The error code of the redirected link is displayed in the Code column. The table below explains the common error codes.

Spelling Errors
To check if any spelling errors were found on the website, click the Spelling Errors category. The HTML webpages found spelling errors redirected links will be listed with a Redirected links are shown with a red arrow next to them. To view which webpages contained the redirected link, right click the webpage from the list, and select Properties from the popup menu. The webpages listed in the URL Referrals box contain the reference to the redirected link.
Exporting the results
To export the results, click on the URL in the Site Map pane. Click the Export menu option, and select which format to export the results in.

HTTP Settings

If you need to use a Proxy Server to connect to the internet, you should specify the address of the proxy. If you find that SiteMapper is unable to connect to the website, you should check and make sure that both the address and the port of your proxy are correct.
Server:
The address of the proxy server
Port:
Specifies the port to use.
Username:
Specifies the username to use when accessing the Proxy. (Not required on all proxy servers, please ask your System Administrator for help if unsure)
Password:
Specifies the password to use when accessing the Proxy. (Not required on all proxy servers, please ask your System Administrator for help if unsure)
Basic Authentication:
Tick this checkbox if your proxy uses basic authentication. (Check with your network administrator if unsure)
Setup External Tools
You will need to set the paths to external tools in order to access the tools from SiteMapper. To set the external tools paths, select Setup External Tools from the File menu. 
HTML Editor:
The path to your HTML editor. This may be Notepad, Frontpage, Trellian Codepad, Trellian WebPage etc. For a free HTML editor, download WebPage from http://www.trellian.com/
HTML Browser:
The path to your preferred web browser
FTP Client:
The path to your preferred FTP client eg. Trellian FTP
Submission Tool:
The path to your preferred submission tool eg. Trellian SubmitWolf
eComm Solution:
The path to your preferred eCommerce solution eg. Trellian eComm
Image Editor:
The path to your preferred image editor. eg. Paint shop pro, photoshop.
Video Editor:
The path to your preferred video editor
Audio Editor:
The path to your preferred audio editor.
Displaying panes
Connection Status:
To toggle display of the connection status window, click the Status button on the toolbar. You can also toggle the connection status window by selecting Connection Status from the View menu.
Folders:
To toggle the display of the Site Map pane, click the Folders button on the toolbar. You can also toggle the Site Map pane by selecting Folders from the View menu.
Preview:
To toggle the display of the Preview pane, click the Folders button on the toolbar. You can also toggle the Preview pane by selecting Web Browser from the View menu.
Status Bar:
To toggle the display of the status bar, select Status Bar from the View menu.
Validating External URLs
To validate external URLs from your website, ensure the Validate External URLs menu option in the File menu is ticked.
